Ultrasound/Vascular
(Sonography)
Ultrasound scans are a very important tool for diagnosis and assessment in the practice of medicine. Ultrasounds do NOT require the use of X-rays. You will be asked to lie on a comfortable table, sometimes on your back or sides. A warm gel will be placed on your skin and the technologist will roll a transducer over the areas to be imaged.
You may need to fast or fill your bladder for ultrasound exams, so please visit Imaging Services Catalog, to ensure you are properly prepared for your exam. Some ultrasounds are called vascular ultrasounds, so be aware of the name of the exam your providers is ordering.
Mercy Medical Center is committed to providing quality ultrasound exams. The technologists that perform these exams have advanced training in Ultrasound protocols and are nationally registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
We are proud to say, all of our ultrasound equipment, radiologists and technologists are also accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). We have annual inspections on documentation, quality testing, interpretations, continuing education and positioning.
An advanced trained Sonographer will be performing your exam.
This is different from the Radiologist who will interpret the images.
